Thanksgiving is meant to be a time set apart just to be thankful for
all manner of things; you do not have to wait for the fourth Thursday
in November to be thankful to your Creator for your experiences and
escapes in the previous months. Even though we don’t celebrate
thanksgiving as a festivity except when something big happens- say, an
escape from a ghastly accident or answer to something long awaited- as
Nigerians, I just felt like talking about this today. This is just to
tell you that regardless your present situation and whatever you might
have been through be thankful because some people have been in such and
never came out of it. You also need to be thankful at all times because a
thankful and cheerful heart I believe is fit for more blessings. As you
devour that meal today thank God that you have the opportunity to. Just
put on a heart of thanksgiving no matter what happens and try to be
thankful as often as possible cos it helps—I’m no preacher but I like
seeing thankful and cheerful people. As you go out today, be happy
Nigerian teenagers regardless what you come across. Happy thanksgiving
and enjoy your celebration if you do celebrate today.

4 things you are doing wrongly to your hair
I am no hair expert but as a full-blooded Nigerian girl, I know by now that having straight hair is not really meant for me else I would have had that while growing up. Some of us end up using relaxers and all sorts to achieve that straightness (not saying you shouldn’t relax your hair, it’s a matter of choice, and the choice is yours). Below are a few things you do that can affect your hair’s health and growth generally (relaxed or not):
- Combing it when dry: Based on our location on the globe (i.e. tropic region), our hair tends to get dry real quick. It is strongly advised by the hair experts that you spritz your hair with some water before combing just to add some moisture which in turn reduces breakage and makes combing less of a hassle.
- Regular application of heat: Some of us really desire straight hair (which is really not meant for us) and in order to get that resolve to using straighteners when not in braids or weaves. Well good news, straight hair’s not meant for every one—because for some of us after the first day of rocking the hair all the straightness is out—and for those that make use of hair dryerrs and straighteners on natural hair (relaxed or natural-natural) regularly, they actually thin your hair and make it dry. Ok enough of heat.
- Combing straight from the roots: Apart from hearing this from my mom, time has taught me this as well. The better way to comb your hair is from the tips In order to avoid tangling. The reason is logical, combing hair from the roots leaves some tangled hair towards the tip or middle which requires serious patience when detangling to avoid some hair loss. So, it is advisable to comb from the tip and then progress downwards than to spend precious time detangling what you tangled or risk losing some hair.
- Making use of the wrong combs and styling tools and techniques: This is really common with people that dress our hairs; you would agree with me that they tend to use smaller combs (that blue comb) instead of bigger combs depending on how much hair is to be combed. I don’t know why they do that but the smaller comb can lead to breakage and it is actually easier to comb hair with wide-toothed combs. Just try it.Hope this comes in helpful. images courtesy google

10 productive things to do when really really bored
- Get on YouTube: YouTube is a site for videos— sure you all know that—, you can subscribe to channels that do stuffs you have interest in be it whatever. Yea you can even make your personal videos and post them on, this might just get you some fan base you never can tell.
- Pick up a non-school book to read: I think picking a school related book may even make one get bored the more being that when in a state of boredom the last thing is reading to understand, so a holy book, comic book, novel or magazine can do the trick.
- If you are artsy at heart you can pick up a pen and draw away till you feel bored no more. These works might even get you some extra money if you are business minded and they are really good.
- Look out for DIYs: the internet definitely cannot be short of DIYs whether it is fashion, interiordécor, remaking things generally whatever tickles your fancy I feel you would find ‘em.
- Get your creative juices flowing (I kinda made reference to this in point 3): this can be in various forms depending on the skills you have, it could be writing, composition whatever it is just don’t stay idle.
- Learn something new: this could be done using online platforms or from people around you with basic knowledge in what you have little or no idea of.
- Crochet or sew: quite a number of younger teenagers (esp. girls) have some skill in the former while some older teenagers (both guys & girls) have skills in the later. Either way, it is a pretty cool way to while away time because one can make use of what has been made during free time.Likewise, it can earn you some cash by making stuffs for people close to you who like your work.
- Take a walk: you may be surprised seeing this on the list but it is quite productive. Taking a walk when bored keeps you in touch with your environment and helps clear your head, it can also be used to replace once in a while exercises if done on a routine basis.
- Sleep: Sleeping is a way to relax especially when stressed or tired. Sleeping rejuvenates and makes one feel well rested. You’ll be surprised how much a good rest will do for you—especially if you don’t sleep well at night—and how time would pass. (Please don’t sleep when you have a list of things you ought to do).
- Take lessons or lectures online: there are some sites that offer free tutorials on both academic and non-academic things, take for instance coding, lessons on musical instruments, some beauty lessons and the list goes on(this somehow comes down to YouTube) . Just search for what tutorial you are in need of and voila there it is.
What ought to be on this list that isn’t? You can tell me what you do in your free time that you see as productive.

What do you think of piercings?
I was engaged in a discussion with my folks some while ago on why people of recent just copy things or trends just to belong and extra piercings came up. The heart of the discussion was that we (my folks and i) get irritated by the sight of unnecessary piercings so to say—and I guess we aren’t the only ones. One of us came up with the opinion that we don’t know why they do it or if their line of profession encourages that (not so valid), with the example of video vixens, models and such. It was also mentioned that friends or people around may be influence them but in my view, only people who do not know what they want succumb to such. The other came up with the view that people-esp. ladies- have multiple piercings and they then say they are looking for life partner (not judging though) because he sees it as a turn off. My humble self was taking no sides, I realized that some people have extra piercings because of damages to the former ones and for guys I just do not know. I feel one’s outward appearance determines if people will even want to know your character and what people perceive of you before you even utter a word. So people may think of people with piercings as irresponsible people. All thanks to whoever ignited this discussion and I do not appreciate piercings (would know that if you read this article closely).
What do you think of piercings and people with them? Do have one/some and why is that? What is the least appealing piercing you have seen? Please share your experience in the comments section. Thanks. (picture: shutterstock.com)

10 Types of Facebook friends
Virtually all of us(teenagers) have Facebook accounts, even though IG and snapchat are slowly taking over I’m sure we still have memories about the times we used Facebook (if you no longer use it). One memory that might be hard to forget are the kind of friends on your friends’ list either then or now. I have taken the effort to remind you and open the eyes of those still using FB to the kind of FB friends one could possibly have. Enjoy reading and please be kind enough to remind me of the category I possibly forgot.
- The passive: they never like or comment on your post and that gets me wondering how they got to the friends list (even though I am really guilty of that).

- The gamer: this group of friends can send game invites for Africa.

- The event followers: from awards to concerts and even not so publicized shows, how do they manage to know all these?
- The once-in-a-while status update guy/girl: they only post during festivities and other circumstances- pretty sure their updates barely reach 10 per year- and then profile picture update is once in a "thousand years".
- The picture friend: with this set of friends, a day of 24 hours turns to a day of over 24 pictures [pardon my exaggeration ;-)]. Looking for a forgotten post on such a timeline is just stressful cos you have to pass through lots and lots of pictures.

- The link friend: most of the updates of this set of people are from sites that have their permission to post on their FB page.
- The hourly update friend: you can literally track such people’s schedules- if the locations are true.
- The inspirational friend: each post they make inspires you in a way and some wish they could take it down a bit.

- The whiners: they use every opportunity they get to just get at you and this can be really annoying.(You are literally like this).

- The Facebook unfriendly friends: this could be those that come on another person's wall/thread and pick up a fight (real or fake it’s so not cool) or those that think writing on a wall is similar to a personal message-smh.
Did I miss any type of FB friend? Please remind me in the comments. Images courtsey shutterstock and google.
